Visual for new premier at the Semperoper Dresden

Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites — premiering at the Semperoper Dresden on 31 January 2026 — is based on the true story of the Carmelite nuns of Compiègne, executed during the French Revolution.

Sixteen women walk, singing, into death. Not as spectacle. Not as provocation. But as a question. You can now find more on website:

While working on this visual, I kept circling the same thought:

how do we live, knowing that this life might be all we have?

For the Carmelites, hope was rooted beyond death.

Today, that certainty feels distant — sometimes even unsettling.

And yet the questions remain painfully current:

Where do we place hope when the horizon feels empty?

What does courage look like when there is no clear promise of “after”?

And what price are we willing — or unwilling — to pay for meaning?

This project is not about answers.

It’s about staying with the tension.

About fear, dignity, belief, doubt — and the fragile human need to believe that our lives matter, even when they end.

Some images are not meant to decorate.

They are meant to ask.
